Valencia close to deal for ex-Milan objective

By

Valencia are considering a move for Jackson Martinez of Porto, according to reports in Spain.

The 27-year-old was heavily linked with a move to Milan days after Mario Balotelli joined Liverpool but the two clubs never reached an agreement for the strong striker.

Porto insist the player's £28m buy-out clause must be met to let the striker go, fee new owner Peter Lim Eng Hock is ready to pay to add the Colombia international to Nuno Espirito Santo's side.

No Southampton move for Andros Townsend

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman explained it is unlikely Tottenham Hotspur's Andros Townsend will sign during the last few days of the transfer window.

The Dutchman did however confirm the 23-year-old is one of the players the Saints have been following during the summer.

"It's difficult because it's one of the players on our list, but it's very difficult," Koeman said in Thursday's press conference.

"I don't expect good news about that. You can't say completely because this is football."
