Napoli coach Rafa Benitez was delighted after his side won the Italian Super Cup against Juventus in Doha.
The Partenopei twice restored parity in regular time and had to play catch-up in the penalty shoot-out as well as they end the year on a high, much to the delight of their manager.
"Tonight I am happy for the lads, for my staff and for the club," Benitez said.
"We wanted to give a big joy to the fans and we played for them, giving our best and never giving up.
"I am happy for Gonzalo's [Higuain's] brace, he's a champion and I'm also happy for [goalkeeper] Rafael who showed how good he is.
"[Dries] Mertens had a small ankle problem so I decided to start with [Jonathan] De Guzman who did well. I knew Dries could come in in the second half and he also didn't disappoint.
"This will go down as the most important win [in my career]. It's my 12th trophy and I'm happy to celebrate it here at Napoli, with this team and with these fans, who are always behind us."
