Rafa Benitez on the Empoli game, confirms Mertens will start

By

Napoli coach Rafa Benitez says Dries Mertens will be in the starting line-up for tomorrow's early kick-off against Empoli.

The Partenopei will be desperate to take advantage of Juventus' draw against Fiorentina with striker Gonzalo Higuain set to start on the bench.

"I respect Empoli, I like their attitude and approach to games," Benitez told Radio Kiss Kiss.

"They are very well organised, especially in defence.

"He [Gonzalo Higuain] is fit and available although I'm not sure he'll feature from the beginning. But he trained and he's fit, yes.

"[Dries Mertens] is also fit and he will feature from the start."

With Lorenzo Insigne ruled out for months, Napoli are expected to sign new players during the January transfer window as confirmed by the Spaniard.

"The chairman understands that we have problems with Insigne our injured," Benitez said.

"I see he's active on the transfer side and we'll surely do something."
