Rafa Benitez defends Marek Hamsik: He played a good match

By

Napoli boss Rafa Benitez says Marek Hamsik should not be held responsible for yet another disappointing result against Chievo.

The Partenopei went perilously close on a number of occasions but failed to find the back of the net with the visitors taking advantage of some shaky defending to take the lead through Maxi Lopez.

"He started last season well but was then affected by the injury that kept him on the sidelines for two months," Benitez told Sky Sports Italy.

"Today he played a good match, his movement was purposeful, I would say this was one of his best games."

Napoli fans jeered the coach and the team at the end of the game but Benitez believes this will help the players to be more motivated in the future.

"The supporters were fantastic throughout the match, they helped us.

"They did their best, it's our job to score goals, the [boos] will help us to be more motivated."
