Valon Behrami: Why I decided to leave Napoli and join Hamburg

By

Valon Behrami says Napoli manager Rafa Benitez was the reason why he left the Partenopei.

The Switzerland international joined Napoli during the 2012 summer transfer window and immediately became one of the fan favourites with his unique fighting spirit and determination.

"Mazzarri was manager when I joined Napoli, he believed in me and knew exactly how to treat me," the midfielder told Tagesanzeiger.ch.

"It was a perfect year with him, but then Benitez came along and problems started from day one.

"I never felt wanted so I lost some of the joy for the game."

The 29-year-old confirmed Internazionale made an approach to sign him this summer but the two clubs failed to reach an agreement.

"Internazionale? Yes, it was a possibility but the chairmen of the two clubs have a particular relationship with each other and I didn't want to end up staying at Napoli for one more season."
