Mehdi Benatia on the Bayern win, shows compassion for old team-mates

By

Bayern Munich defender Mehdi Benatia says Roma is still in his heart.

The Morocco international left the Giallorossi in controversial fashion last summer but admits he was sorry for his team-mates after the reigning German champions scored seven at the Olimpico Stadium.

"For me it was special to play against my old team-mates," Benatia told the club's official website.

"We played well and we took three important points. I am very satisfied but at the same time I'm upset for my old team-mates.

"I would lie if I say that the club and the city are no longer in my heart.

"I hope they make it through the group stage.

"In all fairness I didn't focus on the boos, I was concentrated on doing my best. I hope I demonstrated why Bayern chose me. I want to thank the boss, Rummenigge and Sammer for believing in me.

"No, [we didn't celebrate the win] because we have to look forward to our next game against Borussia Monchengladbach. We have to stay focused and take it one game at a time."
