Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi says the Sassuolo game can be a tricky one for his team.
The Rossoneri will be looking to extend their impressive run started against Napoli as they continue their chase for a top three finish in the Italian Serie A.
"They are very organised, very well managed," Inzaghi said.
"We know how good they are, you don't obtain good results against Roma and Juventus if you're not quality.
"The first game of the new year is always tricky. I hope the win against Real Madrid gives us the confidence we need to understand that we're on the right track."
New signing Alessio Cerci can help the Rossoneri make the top three this season and Inzaghi says the player is already ready to feature for his new club.
"He's motivated and settled in already," the Italian explained.
"He didn't train much but he could feature for 20-25 minutes because he's eager to do well.
"We all know how quality he is. It's up to me to understand when he'll be at the top of his fitness level but I already have an indication after the first sessions of training."
Meanwhile, the 41-year-old says Ignazio Abate and Mattia De Sciglio are finally back in the squad.
"Abate and De Sciglio are in the squad," Inzaghi said.
"De Sciglio is fitter than he was before. [Adil] Rami is also available. [Philippe] Mexes will be back for the Torino game [on January 10].
"[Marco] van Ginkel is almost ready, he's a few days away. [Daniele] Bonera will be back running today, he could be available for the Torino game."
