Diego Lopez: I struggled during the spell on the sidelines

By

Milan goalkeeper Diego Lopez says it was painful to spend a full month on the sidelines.

The 32-year-old suffered a thigh injury during the 5-4 away win against Parma when he failed to control an easy Mattia De Sciglio backpass but is expected to be back in the squad after the international break.

"I'm eager to make my comeback, it's not easy to sit out four straight games," Lopez told Milan Channel.

"I struggled during the spell on the sidelines but I still did my best to support my team-mates.

"I suffered the injury [at Parma] before the ball reached me, it was incredibly painful when I stepped my foot on the ground. That was when my head lost focus of the ball.

"[The game against Verona] will be tough. I hope to be back in the squad next week, hopefully on Monday. We have to win but we know it will not be easy.
