Milan coach Filippo Inzaghi was baffled by the way his players started the game against Empoli on Tuesday night.
The Rossoneri were two goals behind after less than 25 minutes with the hosts creating more chances to increase the lead in the first half.
But a Fernando Torres header and a great piece of skill by Keisuke Honda salvaged a point for Inzaghi's sorry looking Milan.
"I cannot understand what happened at the start of the game," Inzaghi told reporters.
"I'm upset with the first 30 minutes of the game but the lads are human and I can't be mad at them as they always give their best.
"But we have to look at a half full glass, we first deserved to lose but we then deserved to win.
"We have the spirit, the eagerness and the best forward line.
"[Fernando] Torres had a good game, scored and assisted but I had to take him off because he couldn't play the full 90 minutes.
"We will slowly adapt to the 4-2-3-1 formation, we have the players to use it like Bonaventura, El Shaarawy, Honda and Menez.
"The 4-2-3-1 would allow us to use Menez and Torres in a more central position. I had hoped to have more time to try it out but we now have 3/4 days at Milanello and we could use it in our next game.
"[Marco] van Ginkel twisted his ankle, I hope he won't be sidelined for long.
"Cesena will be another tricky game, I hope to have Essien available. As for Alex, I think he's ready."
