Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says his side paid the price for not being clinical enough in front of goal after the 1-1 draw against Sampdoria.
The Bianconeri dominated the game in the first half but Patrice Evra's goal was all they had to show for their dominance as they struggled to cope with Sampdoria's pressure early in the second half.
"All in all the team did well today," Allegri said.
"The first 30 minutes of the game were excellent, we created a lot, then we failed to close the game and conceded on the counter after their goalkeeper made a save.
"But the team tried hard, we knew it was going to be a difficult game and we didn't convert all the chances we created.
"At this stage of the season it's impossible to play the full 90 minutes with the same intensity. In the end they closed all the gaps at the back and it was very difficult to infiltrate their defence."
Chile's Arturo Vidal has struggled for form this season but Allegri insists the 27-year-old is improving.
"Vidal did well when the team was playing well," added the manager.
"We then struggled in the last 30 minutes of the game but I must say he worked really hard. He had a couple of chances where he could have scored so I'd say he's improving."
Asked if a new defender will be added to the squad during the January transfer window, the Italian said: "The club and myself are aware of what is needed.
"We are short at the back but it's not time to think about this, our focus is on the next game against Cagliari and the Italian Supercup."
