Juventus coach Massimiliano Allegri says his players wanted to prove a point against Milan on Saturday.
The Bianconeri enjoyed the majority of possession throughout the game but the Italian says it was not easy to find space in the Milan defence.
"First of all in no way this was an easy game because Milan defended well," Allegri told reporters after the game.
"They were also dangerous on the counter but the lads were patient in closing them down, but we had to work hard.
"We knew it, winning at the San Siro is never easy but the lads wanted to prove a point. This was an important game even if it's still the third of the season.
The match marked the return of Allegri at the San Siro stadium, months after he was sacked by Milan.
"I've said it yesterday, I'm not a machine," added Allegri.
"It would have been hypocritical to come back at the San Siro and say that I feel no emotions. And in fact it wasn't the case.
"At Milan we reached all our objectives during my three years and a half stay but I'm now at Juventus and I want to win with Juventus."
