Former president Massimo Moratti says the new signings during the winter transfer window were a psychological boost for Internazionale.
The Nerazzurri signed Lukas Podolski from Arsenal and Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich in their attempt to qualify for next season's Champions League and Moratti says everyone has to believe in this objective.
"Of course [I believe in a top-three finish]," Moratti told La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"We all have to believe in this objective.
"[The Genoa game] was a good one, one could also feel the importance of the new signings.
"We already saw [Lukas] Podolski twice and [Xherdan] Shaqiri showed how good he is during the last World Cup Finals.
"I'm very curious to see him in action with Internazionale.
"He [Lukas Podolski] is an intelligent player with plenty of experience, that's why he settled down so quickly. He convinced me against Juventus and performed against Genoa as well."
New coach Roberto Mancini made it clear new signings are a must to strengthen the squad and Moratti agrees.
"When I was president he [Roberto Mancini] was very demanding," the 69-year-old explained.
"But I think things are a little bit different now. I believe before returning to the club he made it clear that the squad has to be improved.
"And just like last year with Hernanes, [president Erick] Thohir showed that he is ready to add to the squad."
