Internazionale coach Roberto Mancini was again disappointed with his side's performance in the second half.
The Nerazzurri were by far the better team in the first part of the game and showed their superiority over Genoa by taking a comfortable two-goal lead.
But a below-par performance in the second half allowed Genoa to gain confidence and to find a well-deserved equaliser before Nemanja Vidic's header sealed the win for Mancini's men.
"I am satisfied with the result and the first half performance, less with the second half," Mancini said.
"We are doing well but one win does not change our mission. Today it was important to win and do well using an offensive type of formation. We can continue like this if we improve our fitness level."
New signing Xherdan Shaqiri warmed up in the second half but was an unused substitute for Internazionale.
"I couldn't risk putting [Xherdan Shaqiri] in, he only trained once, it was not worth the risk," Mancini explained.
"What is important at the moment is for all players to be at their very best in terms of fitness level. Their [Lukas Podolski, Hernanes and Xherdan Shaqiri] role will not be a concern."
