Jose Mourinho held "secret talks" to make £52million star his first summer signing

By

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho held "secret talks" to sign Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata, the Daily Star has revealed.

The 24-year-old is a target for a number of top European clubs including Chelsea and Milan.

The Red Devils are searching for new strikers after Zlatan Ibrahimovic's injury and the uncertainty around Wayne Rooney.

Earlier this month, the Spaniard confessed that he was bitterly disappointed at how his season unfolded but also that he wants to win trophies with the Spanish giants.

"Did I expect to play more? Sure, but I'm always ready for the coach when he needs me and that is the most important thing," he said.

"I would like to play every minute of every match, as everyone does, I always want to go and score goals yet I am aware there are times when this isn't possible.

"I don't think about my own personal achievements, I want to win La Liga and the Champions League as every other player in the squad does, it is going to be a very difficult end to the season but we know if we win every match then we will be champions in two competitions."
