Former Manchester United star urges boss van Gaal to sign Borussia Dortmund centre-back

By

Former Manchester United star Lee Sharpe says boss Louis van Gaal should sign a strong defender before the end of the transfer window.

The Red Devils will sign at least two more players according to the Dutchman and Sharpe believes that someone like Borussia Dortmund's Mats Hummels would be a perfect signing for the club.

"I think a centre-half is more important now, to be honest. I think they could definitely do with a decent centre-half," Sharpe posted on KICCA.com.

"I just think the amount of chances that teams created against United last season means they could do with someone a little bit more organised or experienced because LVG does like to play the three at the back and I am not sure Jones and Smalling are naturals at it.

"He has got a couple of good young lads coming through and they are going to need some guidance from an experienced player.

"Mats Hummels was in Manchester last week and I thought that might have come off and the Ramos saga has sort of died down a bit now but I did think he was coming.

"But they need someone like that, someone who is a bit of a footballing centre-half that can dictate and educate the others around him."
