Manchester United to challenge Chelsea for Everton youngster

By

Manchester United are targeting a transfer move for Everton's John Stones this summer as Louis van Gaal overhauls his squad for a Premier League title challenge next term, Metro reports.

The 21-year-old, also a target for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea, is an admirer of former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand and is eager to emulate his role model.

"I'd love to create this image of me doing what Rio did but I also want to be known as a great defender who can keep clean sheets," Stones is quoted as saying by Mirror.

"I always used to watch Rio play.

"I loved the way he came out with the ball, and speaking to the [senior] lads when we were just watching a game in the hotel, they used to say how good he was at doing that."
