Angel di Maria: The importance of the number seven jersey

By

Manchester United winger Angel di Maria says he couldn't have wished for a better home debut after he scored the first goal against Queens Park Rangers on Sunday.

The Argentina international was given a warm welcome by the United fans and didn't disappoint as he was one of the best players on the pitch against Harry Redknapp's side.

"I wished very much for the day of my debut at Old Trafford and I did in the best way, scoring a goal," di Maria told Fox Sports Radio Del Plata.

"The happiness is enormous.

"We have a coach that wants the very best from each player"

"We put a lot of pressure on in the attack, we handled the ball and we got near to our rivals' goal many times."

The 26-year-old opted for the number seven jersey at the club, the same number previously used by the likes of Eric Cantona, Cristiano Ronaldo and David Beckham.

"It is very nice to use this number.

"Many important players have worn this shirt and I am going to do all that is possible to not let down this shirt."
