Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers believes his team created enough chances to win the game against Manchester United.
It was the fourth time this season that the Reds conceded three goals away from home after defeats at Manchester City, West Ham and Crystal Palace as pressure piles on the Liverpool boss.
"I thought we had done enough to win the game, it epitomised our season really," Rodgers told Sky Sports.
"We created so many chances today and David De Gea was man of the match. He's had four or five games like that this season.
"We also made defensive mistakes and that cost us today. We've just got to keep working, we know what the solutions are and hopefully the confidence will return.
"Today we were the better side in the first half but you can't concede the goals we did. We nearly went in front and they went up the other end and scored because we lost our runner from the midfield area.
"Today, we created opportunities which we haven't been doing. I'll keep searching for the solutions. It's been difficult this year but that's the way it works. It's clear we haven't scored or created enough goals."
Asked why goalkeeper Simon Mignolet was relegated on the bench, the manager added: "I felt after the Basel game I had to make a change.
"Simon has been fine, he's a good professional. I spoke to him the other day and he accepted it.
"I don't think Brad Jones had much to do today, other than for the goals. The change is for an indefinite period.
"I felt Brad did very well for me last year when I needed him, he's a very capable keeper. We have to find solutions all over the squad to be better."
