Brendan Rodgers on Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo and Mario Balotelli

By

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers says tomorrow's game against Real Madrid will be special.

The Reds host the Merengues knowing that three points are vital if they are to keep their Champions League hopes alive with Rodgers fully aware of the strength of Carlo Ancelotti's players.

"The good thing about this group is that we lift ourselves for the big games," Rodgers said during Tuesday's press conference.

"We haven't got to the levels of last season yet, but this is a special game and a special competition.

"I'm very confident that our team will rise to the standards of playing an outstanding Real Madrid team.

"Gareth Bale not playing can be advantage to us, but Real have a fantastic squad.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is a special talent, arguably the best player in the world at the moment.

"His record is incredible. We have to make a plan to make sure that we cause them problems, but also prepare for the quality players that they have.

"Mario Balotelli was disappointed after the weekend. But, the point I highlighted was that he was in the position to miss. It's only a matter of time before he gets his goals."
