Official: Club releases statement to confirm defender will leave the club to join Chelsea

By

Borussia Monchengladbach have confirmed Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen will not extend his stay at the club and will join Chelsea for pre-season.

The youngster left Stamford Bridge to join the German giants on a two-year loan deal in the summer of 2015.

He impressed at the Bundesliga club but after sporting director Max Eberl revealed that they want to make the move permanent, a club statement revealed that he will leave the club.

"Andreas Christensen will leave Borussia after having played here for two years," the club said in a statement published on their official website.

"The 21-year-old came to VfL on loan in the 2015/16 season from Chelsea and quickly established himself as a starter in the side, as well as one of the best centre-backs in the Bundesliga.

"Christensen also rose through up the ranks of the Denmark national team during this time.

"In both campaigns, Christensen has been ranked as one of the best tacklers in the league, and his safe passing game and composure on the pitch made him one of the Fohlenelf's most important and consistent players."
