Chelsea boss Antonio Conte to meet agent this month to discuss signing of "new Jaap Stam"

By

Chelsea have joined Barcelona in the race to sign impressive youngster Davinson Sanchez from Ajax, TuttoMercatoWeb has revealed.

The 19-year-old centre-back is one of the many defenders identified by manager Antonio Conte who wants to add a new centre-back to his squad after the departure of John Terry.

Ajax are ready to listen to offers and are expected to ask £34million to let the player go.

The Daily Star has also reported that the player's agent will be in England later on this month to meet with the Blues to discuss the future of his client.

Dutch legend Ruud Gullit compared the youngster to Jaap Stam and expects him to leave to join one of Europe's best this summer.

"There is a danger of a quick departure as Sanchez displays himself so impressively on the European stage," Gullit wrote about him in De Telegraaf.

"Jaap Stam was the last Ajax player with such defensive qualities."
