Chelsea striker in shock admission: I was a "few details" away from leaving the club

By

Chelsea striker Diego Costa says he would have rejoined Atletico Madrid had the two clubs tackled a "few details" during the summer transfer window.

Reports in July claimed that the 27-year-old told close friends that he wanted to quit Stamford Bridge to return to the Spanish Liga.

He admitted that he wanted to go back but also added that he is now happy to be at Chelsea.

"Everybody knows there was a possibility of going back to Atletico but it didn't happen because of a few details,' he told Movistar.

"I thank the fans and Cholo [Simeone] for his faith. Now I'm at Chelsea, I'm happy there and I've started the season with them.

"I hope Atletico do well this season like last year and win titles.

"I wanted to go back, I won't lie about it."
