Chelsea fail to lure Romelu Lukaku as they turn attention to 57-goal hitman - clubs to open talks soon

By

Chelsea have understood that Everton will not sell Romelu Lukaku having sold key defender John Stones to Manchester City.

They have therefore turned their attention to Internazionale striker Mauro Icardi.

Calciomercato.it believes that the Blues have joined Arsenal in the race to sign the 23-year-old Argentinean.

Icardi is one of the most lethal strikers in the Serie A having scored 57 goals in 122 appearances.

Former coach Roberto Mancini made it clear that he wanted the player to lead his offensive department but after the Italian left the club the future of the striker is not clear as he could be sold this month.

Icardi is also a target for Arsenal who are yet to add a new striker to their squad.

The Gunners were also in the race to sign the Belgium international but Everton have claimed in more than one occasion that they don't want to sell Lukaku.
