Chelsea reach agreement for transfer of talented midfielder but now deal is off

By

The transfer of Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel to PSV Eindhoven on loan has been called off after the youngster decided to nurse a knee injury.

The two clubs agreed to extend the loan spell of the Dutchman for one more season but a statement published by his representatives’ website confirmed that the deal has had to be postponed.

"I've actually had the burden of the irritation in my knee for months," he said.

"It was also true during my loan spell with PSV last season. I can play and train regularly without feeling the irritation in my knee.

"But it happens regularly and that bothers me. Wherever I play I want to give 100 per cent.

"I do not feel I now get to that percentage, at least not for myself. That's why I've made this decision, to be better for it.

"Therefore under these circumstances there was no sense in returning to PSV."
