Chelsea boss Roman Abramovich in talks to sign Lionel Messi from Barcelona

By

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich has held personal talks with the father of Lionel Messi over the possibility of signing the Argentinean during the summer transfer window.

According to Calciomercato.com, the Chelsea boss is ready to offer a £600,000-a-week contract to the 29-year-old.

The Barcelona star retired from international football last month after his side's defeat by Chile in the Copa America.

Days later he was sentenced to 21 months in prison for tax fraud.

The Spanish giants are not interested in selling their star player although recent reports have claimed that the player is unhappy with the lack of support received by the club during his trial for tax fraud.

The striker has a release clause of £193million but Abramovich is hoping to reach an agreement in the region of £112million.
