Chelsea blow as £40million offer to sign midfielder is rejected by his club

By

Valencia have rejected a bid of around £40million from Chelsea for midfielder Andre Gomes, Mirror has revealed.

The 22-year-old is expected to leave the Spanish giants this summer with Juventus also interested in making a move.

According to the article, the Blues may not make a fresh bid to sign the youngster.

Meanwhile, the midfielder says Portugal need Cristiano Ronaldo's goals if they are to battle past Wales in today's Euro 2016 semi-final.

"It's not a moment to talk about individuals. Cristiano works for the group which is the important thing. We are 23 players," he told reporters.

"He's scored two goals — probably we were expecting more, it's true.

"But it's not the moment to put pressure on a player and place him in doubt, because he has demonstrated his quality and is working for the group and helping in the Euro."
