Chelsea make "significant progress" in their surprise bid to sign Barcelona starlet

Chelsea look like winning the race to sign Barcelona starlet Sergio Gomez, The Sun has reported.

The Blues will pay "as much as £7m in compensation" to secure the services of the youngster.

Premier League giants Liverpool are also rumoured to be interested but it now seems Chelsea have made "significant progress" to seal the transfer.

Gomez would not be the first Barcelona talent to leave the club to make a move to the English Premier League.

Arsenal have signed a number of players from the Spanish giants including Cesc Fabregas, Hector Bellerin and Jon Toral.
