Jose Mourinho: Everything was good apart from the penalty shoot-out

By

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was satisfied despite his side's defeat against Stoke City in the League Cup.

The Blues crashed out of the Capital One Cup despite a hard-working display at the Britannia Stadium.

And the Portuguese says his players deserved to make it through and will be frustrated with the result.

"We played very well," Mourinho said.

"There was a lot of everything: a lot of quality, a lot of attacking quality, a lot of attacking football, a lot of emotional control. Everything was good apart from the penalty shoot-out.

"In the first half it should have been three or four nil, playing so well and creating so many opportunities and in so much control.

"It was really frustrating to go in at half-time at 0-0. It was even more difficult to concede with the first shot they had in the second half and then to chase the game.

"For me [we then had] a brilliant period too: losing 1-0, feeling the situation with half-an-hour to go against an experienced opponent with men behind the ball and who are difficult to play against in the air.

"The team did everything. I tried to help too with two kids on the side and with the creative players in the middle. When we scored the goal it was more than deserved.

"Last year we won here 2-0 and we didn't play 25 per cent of what we did today. Last year we had one chance in the first half and we scored a goal, and in the last five or 10 minutes they were in control and we scored a second goal.

"Today they have to be very frustrated because they are not getting what they deserve."
