Jose Mourinho: Radamel Falcao could play alongside Diego Costa

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says Radamel Falcao was not signed as backup for regular striker Diego Costa.

The Colombia international will continue in the Premier League despite his disappointing campaign with Manchester United last season and will feature regularly according to the Portuguese.

Mourinho also confirmed that Loic Remy will not be sold and will be one of the three strikers to fight for a regular place.

"He [Falcao] can be second, first or third [choice]," Mourinho is quoted as saying by The Independent.

"He knows, Diego knows and [Loic] Remy knows that. It is open competition between the three of them.

"That's our objective, that's why we want three strikers ready and important.

"If we want, we can play with Costa and him together – it is something they did before when they were in Atletico. Can he be the Falcao of Atletico? We believe so.

"Every team has their style of play and every manager has their way of football.

"If Mr. Van Gaal didn't play him more it's because he had his ideas and we have to respect that."
