Southampton make £10m offer to sign Chelsea target

By

Southampton have tabled a £10million bid for Chelsea target Charlie Austin, Express Sport has revealed.

The 25-year-old scored 117 goals in 224 games in all competitions in his career and is expected to leave the club after they were relegated to the Championship.

West Ham United are reported to also be interested with former striker Dean Ashton urging new boss Slaven Bilic to make a move for the player.

"If it was me in charge at West Ham, I'd go out straight away and put the money down QPR want for Charlie Austin," Ashton is quoted as saying by the Daily Star last month.

"He scored 18 Premier League goals last season in a team which was struggling.

"I know what it's like to play in teams where you're not playing every week and it's tough. You only get a few chances and he's so clinical."
