Sevilla director of sport confirms club is closing in on Chelsea midfielder

By

Sevilla director of sport Ramon Rodriguez Verdejo has confirmed that the Spaniards are ready to make a move for Chelsea midfielder Gael Kakuta.

The 23-year-old is not part of boss Jose Mourinho's plans for next season and is expected to stay in the Spanish Liga.

"The deal [for Gael Kakuta] is quite close, although nothing has been closed yet," he told As.

"Talks with Chelsea and the player are at an advanced stage so I'm feeling quite optimistic that it will go through.

"It's [a deal for Yevhen Konoplyanka is] complicated. There are a lot of ifs and buts, and we're facing stiff competition from other clubs.

"He's got strong ties to Dnipro and doesn't want to leave them in the lurch.

"A lot of clubs are chasing him but the Sevilla brand name will give us an increased chance," he said.

"But being completely objective, it's not going to be easy at all."
