Newcastle United join Milan in race to sign Chelsea midfielder

By

Newcastle United have joined Milan in the race to sign Chelsea midfielder Marco van Ginkel, Calciomercato.com reports.

The youngster spent last season on loan in the Serie A with Milan eager to extend the player's loan for one more season.

Last month, coach Filippo Inzaghi - who will be replaced by Sinisa Mihajlovic - confirmed that the club's desire is to keep the Dutchman.

"Unfortunately he is not our player," Inzaghi told the club's official website.

"But he has grown a lot. He has played seven or eight games in a row and we are starting to see a great player.

"He does really well in training.

Chelsea have great midfielders and he is need of playing.

"My will would be if possible to keep him because he can give us a big hand."
