Jose Mourinho on the Sporting game, says key players will be rested

By

Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho says key players will be rested for tomorrow's Champions League game against Sporting Lisbon.

The Blues are guaranteed top spot in Group G after three wins and two draws.

The Portuguese has also rubbished claims that the weekend defeat at Newcastle, his side's first of the season, will negatively affect his players.

"The defeat at Newcastle has no effect on us," Mourinho said.

"I always said a defeat would arrive and not by complacency. I'm more than happy with my players and situation. I accept defeat is a normal situation in a championship like the Premier League.

"We don't need to change anything, we couldn't be in a better situation - top in the Premier League, top in the Champions League group and in the last eight of the Capital One Cup.

"The next game you want to win - it's tomorrow. We want a good result.

"We have so many matches to play in December. One of the few teams that also plays in the Capital One Cup in this moment. Other teams involved in the Champions League - only Liverpool are involved.

"This game gives us the chance to rest these three players [captain John Terry, Eden Hazard and Willian].

"Step by step, match after match - we try to give them new periods to breathe so they can face the second part of this December month. Diego Costa starts tomorrow."
