Arsene Wenger explains why he turned down the possibility of signing £50million Premier League star

By

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger says he is happy with the players in midfield.

The Gunners were heavily linked with a move for Riyad Mahrez but the Frenchman believes Alex Iwobi, Jack Wilshere and Mesut Ozil are more than enough in that area of the pitch.

"We were never close [to signing Mahrez]," he told reporters.

"I rate him as a player but we have similar types with Alex Iwobi, Jack Wilshere back, Mesut Ozil; we have plenty of the same type of players.

"[But] we are still open [to sign players in other areas].

"But of course at the moment I have currently 33 players and it is very difficult to manage on a daily basis such a high number."
