"Arsenal's interest came as a shock" - Impressive striker confirms Gunners want to sign him

By

Sunderland striker Joel Asoro has confirmed recent reports claiming Arsenal are interested in signing him.

The Gunners are ready to offer £5million to secure his service and the services of team-mate Benjamin Mbunga Kimpioka.

The 18-year-old admits he was shocked when he found out that one of the most important clubs in the Premier League have made an approach to sign him.

"People were a little shocked because I have played very little first-team football," he said.

"I've heard a little bit, but if I think about it too much, it becomes 'what if, what if.' I try not to think about it too much.

"It came as a shock. It is clear clubs contact each other and stuff, but it's my agent in charge of it. I try to focus on my football.

"[But] w will have to see who the new [Sunderland] manager is and whether or not they like me. If not, I will have to look for something.

"I have to develop and can't just play U23 football all the time."
