Announcement expected next week: Arsenal cleared to sign Manchester United defender target

By

Arsenal have agreed a deal for highly rated defender Erik Tobias Sandberg, according to Metro.

The 16-year-old is considered by many as one of the most promising youngsters in Norway.

Manchester United were also monitoring the progress of the youngster but reports have claimed that he decided to join Arsenal in order to work under manager Arsene Wenger.

He will be eligible to sign his first professional contract on his 17th birthday next year.

The Daily Star has also confirmed the signing although Sandberg's club Lillestrom SK are yet to confirm the transfer and reports on Twitter have claimed that the news of the transfer is a hoax.

If true, the centre-back will join Arsenal's academy to continue his progression and could be joined in North London by Bolton centre-back Rob Holding.
