Chelsea ready to pay asking price for Arsenal target but he prefers to play under Arsene Wenger

Arsenal have made "informal contact" with Everton to sign striker Romelu Lukaku, journalist Emanuele Giulianelli has revealed.

It is unlikely manager Arsene Wenger will spend more than £25million to add a new striker to his squad.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are both ready to meet Everton's asking price but the Belgium international is not keen on making a return to Stamford Bridge.

"Informal contact was made yesterday between Arsenal and Everton," Giulianelli wrote on Twitter.

"In my opinion the deal won't progress despite Lukaku wanting the move."

On Sunday, the 23-year-old disappointed as Belgium eased past Hungary by 4-0.
