Arsenal receive huge boost in race to sign £32m Manchester United target

By

Arsenal have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Karim Benzema with Real Madrid reportedly looking to sell him to fund other transfers, the Daily Star has revealed.

Boss Arsene Wenger confirmed last week that new faces will arrive at the Emirates if "exceptional players" become available on the market.

And the 27-year-old, also linked with a possible move to Old Trafford, continues to be a target for the Frenchman as he looks to strengthen his squad's offensive department.

"I am happy with the squad we have," Wenger said last week.

"If I find an exceptional player to strengthen, I will do it.

"It depends what's on the market. It is not easy, there are a lot of teams out there in Europe competing for the same player. We don't rule it out and [also] don't guarantee we sign.

"[The title] is our target and we feel we have a chance in a very competitive league. We are not far away."
