Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger makes contact to sign £42.5m striker

By

Arsene Wenger is ready to swoop to capture Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema - if incoming manager Rafa Benitez does not pick him, the Telegraph has reported.

Arsenal have only added goalkeeper Petr Cech to their squad so far but are expected to sign at least two new players before the end of the transfer window.

The Frenchman, just like Napoli striker Gonzalo Higuain, was first linked with a possible move to the Emirates two seasons ago.

He scored 20 goals in each of his last five season but his future is uncertain after the arrival of new coach Rafa Benitez.

According to reports, the Spanish giants would consider selling him if a £42.5m offer is received.
