Mats Hummels: Why I snubbed Manchester United and Arsenal

By

Borussia Dortmund defender Mats Hummels says it would have been premature to leave the Germans to make a move to the English Premier League.

A target for Manchester United and Arsenal in England, the 26-year-old World Cup winner agreed to stay with the German giants for at least one more season.

"Of course when the big clubs are interested, and Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, it's an honour," Hummels told reporters.

"I decided not to make the move this year. I decided I wanted to stay here."

Last month, Arsenal midfielder Mesut Ozil told Bild that Hummels can be a success if he decides to one day move to the English Premier League.

"I would recommend any player to come to England," Ozil said.

"Mats [Hummels] and Benedikt [Howedes] have the qualities to make a mark at a big club here – if they want to, and that is obviously up to the individual to decide."
