Arsenal and Manchester United battling to sign £20m-rated midfielder

By

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has turned his attention to Sporting Lisbon's William Carvalho after missing out on Morgan Schneiderlin, the Daily Star reports.

The 23-year-old, who missed the crucial penalty on Tuesday, will feel there is little to be cheerful about following Portugal's defeat against Sweden in the European Under-21 Championship.

But he will delighted to know that his dream to play in the English Premier League could be fulfilled this summer.

The Portuguese is in fact also a target for Manchester United with the two English clubs ready to offer £20m to sign him from Sporting Lisbon.

At the start of the year, he told Record: "My dream is to play in England.

"I know some clubs are interested but my agent Jorge is looking after it and I am relaxed.

"Now my mission is to work in Sporting and they will be in charge of any transfer and my future. That is very important."
