Alan Smith: £25m for Morgan Schneiderlin is not a big fee

By

Former Arsenal striker and Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith says Southampton's Morgan Schneiderlin would be a good signing for the Arsenal midfield.

The 25-year-old is a transfer target for the Gunners, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur after saying that he wants to enjoy Champions League football next season.

And Smith believes the Frenchman should be the first major signing for the Gunners.

"You could buy Petr Cech for £10m, which isn't big in terms of the fee," Smith told Sky Sports News HQ.

"You can buy players that can make a difference, like Morgan Schneiderlin, who is available for £25m. That's not a big fee. for Arsenal these days, when you look at how much they paid for Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil.

"I think he [boss Arsene Wenger] is trying to dip into the transfer market but it's the positions that he is going to try and recruit that will be interesting."
