Arsenal open talks to sign Alvaro Arbeloa

By

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is determined to add experience to his defensive department and will make a move for Alvaro Arbeloa on deadline day.

With Bacary Sagna off to Manchester City and Kieran Gibbs still suffering from regular injury problems, the Frenchman has identified Real Madrid's Alvaro Arbeloa as the perfect player for his defence.

The 31-year-old came off the bench in yesterday's 4-2 defeat against Real Sociedad but didn't look focused enough as he misplaced a number of passes during the 20 minutes spent on the pitch.

On Sunday, the Gunners could only manage a draw away at Leicester with Nigel Pearson's side creating plenty of chances, especially from the wing.

But for Wenger, the offensive department is a priority after main striker Olivier Giroud was sidelined for four months with an ankle injury with the manager uncertain if a replacement will be signed.

"I don't know because it doesn't depend only on me," Wenger said after the 1-1 draw.
