Medical passed and agreement reached: Arsenal to announce second summer signing in the next 24 hours

By

Defender Sokratis Papastathopoulos will become Arsenal's second signing of the summer after completing a medical ahead of his move from Borussia Dortmund.

The Greece international will be the second defender to move to the Emirates after Stephan Lichtsteiner.

A number of reports in England have claimed that the 29-year-old has already passed his medical and will be announced in the coming hours.

Question marks have been raised about the Arsenal defence in recent seasons.

And new boss Unai Emery has identified the defensive department as the area in desperate need of new faces.

The Gunners are also expected to sign a new goalkeeper to provide competition for Petr Cech who struggled for form last season.

Reserve goalkeeper David Ospina is expected to leave this summer to join Boca Juniors.
